___
CALENDAR LOGIC:

The code calculates the number of days a person is eligible for Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) based on a user-provided start and end date of their sickness period.

Calculation Breakdown:

  1. Input Validation:

    • Checks that both start and end dates are entered.

    • Ensures the format is DD/MM/YYYY.

    • Verifies that the start date is not after the end date.

  2. Date Conversion:

    • Converts the string input into valid JavaScript Date objects using the parseDate function.

    • If the input is not a valid calendar date, it returns an error.

  3. Total Sick Days:

    • Uses the calculateDaysBetween function to get the number of days between the start and end dates (inclusive).

  4. SSP Eligibility Rules:

    • SSP starts from the 4th consecutive sick day, so the first 3 days are waiting days and not paid.

    • SSP is only paid for up to 28 weeks (196 days).

  5. Paid Sick Days:

    • sspEligibleDays = total sick days - 3 (waiting days).

    • actualPaidDays = lesser of sspEligibleDays or 196.

  6. SSP Payment Calculation:

    • Weekly SSP rate (as of 2024) = £116.75.

    • Daily rate = weekly rate ÷ 7.

    • Total SSP = actualPaidDays × daily rate.

Output:

Displays:

  • The number of paid SSP days.

  • The estimated total SSP payment, rounded to two decimal places.
